Next May 4th 2013, Ibiza will again become a meeting point and reference in the calendar of athletes, the 2nd edition of Ibiza Ultra Team 2013. An ultra-endurance athletic test combining Trail Running, mountain biking and swimming across open water.
Ibiza Ultra Team 2013 will consist of three individual events starting from different points in Ibiza. Athletes may compete individually in one of three disciplines and in a team with other participants of the remaining two tests. Participants can register from November 1st through Ibizaultrateam.com .
In the first edition, the Trail Running test, began from the village of San Antoni de Portmany. Participants walked a path of 70km through a diverse mountainous landscape. The mountain bike route covered a route of 100 km along beautiful paths and trails in the town of Santa Eulalia des Riu. Instead, the swim across open water, starting and finishing from Ses Illetas beach in Formentera. Athletes had the challenge of swimming and walking around the island of s’Espalmador. This year, 2013, there will be more challenges and experiences.
In recent years there is a trend in the organisation of competitions classified as “Ultra”, where distances and slopes far exceed other tests on the international circuit such as the Iron Man, TNF Ultra Trail of Mont Blanc and demanding marathons. Ibiza Ultra Team wants to become a great sporting event, since the design of the competition is perfectly suited to the climatic and landscape of the island of Ibiza.
Aware of the importance that sport has taken on, Ibiza is consolidating as a destination for adventure tourism. Its nature and a Mediterranean climate with mild temperatures throughout the year is an excellent alternative to the practice of any outdoor sport and for the organization of sports events.
